Emergence

I’m so excited to share with you this co-creative year-long labor of love. For me, it was a weaving together of a lifetime of contemplation, self-discovery and self-reflection. From the first poem I wrote in Mrs. Bridger’s Field Lighthouse class in the third grade, through many years of personal struggle around identity and finding a place where I fit in the world, through my years in women’s studies, and then through a career in gifted education. From working with gifted female adolescents and teens around Mary Pipher’s work in Reviving Ophelia, helping students reconcile cultural norms and a pull toward intellectual pursuit, guiding middle schoolers to remove their metaphorical masks and manage their gifted characteristics and working with gifted adult women. And even with all of this avocation, I continued to learn and heal through my work on this project. I just love when bits and pieces of life merge and make meaning.
